Baylor senior Sean Zhang is this year’s recipient of the Harvey and Jewel Templeton Noble Purpose Scholarship.

Zhang received $5,000 for his essay on Shareef Bacchus, Sean's teacher and MathCounts coach at Hilsman Middle School in Athens, Ga., who has inspired students there for almost 20 years. Zhang accepted the award and read his winning essay in assembly on April 17. Click here to view the podcast.

The scholarship is designed to help students recognize and learn from those in the community who have devoted their lives to noble purpose and to allow applicants the chance to see noble purpose as an important part of their futures.

Lauren Templeton, a member of Baylor's graduating class of 1994 and a Baylor trustee, worked with her family foundation to establish the scholarship in 2004 in honor of Harvey and Jewel Templeton.
