Marcus Harold Carter
Police have charged 24-year-old Marcus Harold Carter with assaulting a pregnant woman. Police said Carter is the father of the child.
He is charged with aggravated assault, criminal trespass, false imprisonment, disorderly conduct, evading arrest, and having a viable fetus as a victim.
In the incident on Wednesday, police were summoned to apartments at 2440 4th Ave. While en route, police were told that Aimee Sims no longer wanted to see police.
Officers continued because the dispatcher could hear Carter's voice in the background and the female caller seemed to be in duress.
After arriving, an officer could hear shouting coming from inside the building, but could not get in because the door was locked. When the officer heard a door slam, the dispatcher said Carter had just assaulted Ms. Sims and was trying to leave.
The officer sprinted around the building and spotted Carter, who continued to run. He was then apprehended.
Ms. Sims said they had an argument, and she asked him to leave multiple times. She said he threatened her and the unborn child (five months gestation).
After she called police, he struck her in the face with a closed fist, knocking her to the floor. She said while she was still down he threatened to kill her if she did not call police back and tell them they were no longer needed.
Ms. Sims, who expressed concern about losing her apartment, declined medical treatment but said she would go to the doctor on her own.
