Bankruptcy Trustee Jerry Farinash said Thursday afternoon that a Mobile, Ala., firm has been told to start work on removing the Casey barge from the Tennessee River in downtown Chattanooga.
He said Coast Guard officials inspected the barge earlier Thursday and "seemed pleased with the condition it is in."
The attorney said the Coast Guard will make a re-inspection just before the barge is pushed away from the Scenic City.
Attorney Farinash said, "I don't know which vessel Gulf Stream Enterprises will use. I don't know if it is one that is five days away or one 10 days away. But they don't get paid until they move it so I am sure one will be headed this way."
The court deadline for removal is May 15.
The attorney said the eyesore barge, that has long been vacant and in a run-down condition directly across from Ross's Landing Park, "should be out of here shortly."
