Woman Injured, Jeffery Held, 38, Dead After Shooting Outside Collegedale Walmart

Jeffery Held, 38, is dead and a woman injured after a shooting near the Collegedale Walmart on Sunday afternoon.

Collegedale Police were dispatched at 2:22 p.m. to reports of a person shot at 5910 Reagan Lane. Police arrived on the scene at 2:23 p.m. and found a deceased man, and a woman suffering gunshot wounds to her lower extremities. The the woman was transported to a local hospital.

Preliminary reports conclude that Held drove to the Ooltewah Crossing shopping complex to speak with his ex-wife, who works at one of the retail stores. Once the female victim was outside, unknown exchanges occurred, Held shot his ex-wife in her lower extremities, and then turned his shotgun on himself.

The investigation is ongoing and has been taken over by Collegedale’s criminal investigations division.
