The annual Recycle Challenge will be Saturday on Signal Mountain
Each year the Mountain Stewards encourage the members of the community to recycle by sponsoring a Recycle Challenge between Thrasher and Nolan Elementary Schools. This year, the Recycle Challenge will take place on Saturday from 8 a.m.-6 p.m. at the Signal Mountain Recycle Center, 1151 Ridgeway Ave. in Signal Mountain.
There will be sign up sheets for each school. Each person who is present at the Recycle Center can sign their name so bring the whole family. The school with the most names at the end of the day wins the Recycle Trophy.
Because one of the goals of the Recycle Challenge is to motivate new families to recycle, there will also be an award for the school with the most first time recyclers. To promote interschool competition, there will also be an award for the classroom with the most recyclers from each school. Organizers are hoping to have more than one class with 100 percent participation.
Recyclable materials can be mixed together in one container. The only item that needs to be separated from the rest is cardboard. Also, residents of Walden and Hamilton County can visit the Recycle Center free of charge. It is open to everyone – you do not have to be a resident of the town to visit the Recycle Center.
