The Chattanooga Mocs softball team (30-11, 11-3 SoCon) travels to Murfreesboro, Tenn., Tuesday afternoon to take on the Middle Tennessee State Blue Raiders in a single game set for 6 p.m. ET.
Head Coach Frank Reed and the Mocs go to Murfreesboro coming off a series loss to Mercer last weekend. Sarah Beth Roberts continues to lead the team with a .405 average, while Sam Taylor leads with 29 runs and 48 hits and Nicole Osterman tops the squad with 12 homeruns.
Pitching duo Taylor Deason (12-4) and Cori Jennings (12-5) pace Chattanooga’s defense with 12 wins apiece. Deason currently leads the pitching staff with a 2.22 ERA with nine complete games and five shutouts. The senior has pitched over 110 innings and has recorded two saves. Jennings follows close behind at just over 109 inning pitched and three shutouts. Freshman Kailey Palazzolo (5-1) has provided support with five wins combined with 16 appearances.
The Conference USA Blue Raiders enter the midweek matchup coming off of back-to-back losses to Samford. MTSU is 18-26 overall with a 4-17 league showing.
The Blue Raiders’ offense is led by Carlie Jenkins as she bats .365, topping the squad with 10 doubles and tying for a team-best 46 hits on the season. Teammate Cor’Nis Birdong has swiped 35 bases on 40 attempts this year, while leading MTSU with 33 runs.
The pitching staff is led by Kelci Cheney and Caitlin McClure, both of which have recorded over five wins on the season. Cheney, 10-13, sports the most appearances at 32 and the most game starts at 21. McClure has pitched the second most innings at 81 frames and has held MTSU opponents to a .300 batting average.
