Rob Riddle, a golf professional with nearly 25 years of experience in the golf industry, has been named head golf coach at The McCallie School.

Riddle served as the varsity and middle school golf coach at Girls Preparatory School in 2013 and 2014 and was the McCallie varsity assistant in 2014. Last year’s head coach John Green is remaining with the program as the assistant.

“This was an opportunity that we could not pass up,” said McCallie Dean of Athletics Jeff Romero.

“To have a golf teacher the caliber of Rob Riddle available to serve in this capacity is a tremendous boost to our golf program and to our students on the golf teams.”

A member of the Professional Golfers’ Association since 1995, Riddle has held various roles in the golf industry including head golf professional, director of golf and general manager. He is likely best known in the Chattanooga area for his role as general manager at Black Creek Club where he worked from 2001 to 2012 at one of America’s top 100 Residential Courses.

“I am absolutely thrilled to be a part of such a fine institution,” Riddle said. “To have the chance to work and help develop student athletes is a dream come true. I hope to build upon the foundation that has already been set in the McCallie athletic department and with the golf program.”

Riddle began his career in golf as an assistant at Troon North Golf Club in Scottsdale, Ariz., a facility he helped open. Recently he did consulting work as the transition manager at Clarksville Country Club in Clarksville, Tenn.

He remains involved in the administration of key tournaments including the PGA’s Web.com Tour and served as an administrator for the 2005 United States Mid-Amateur and the 2006 Men’s Tennessee State Amateur. A renowned golf instructor, he continues to work with PGA professional Harris English, one of the top 60 players on the World Rankings List.

A native of Thomasville, Ga., Riddle earned a marketing and finance degree from Shorter College in 1990. He and his wife Melanie have three children, a daughter Elizabeth Grace, a senior at GPS, a son Robert, a McCallie sophomore, and a son William, 12.
