Turner Retiring As County IT Director; McKinney Named

  • Wednesday, April 29, 2015

Brian Turner is retiring as the Hamilton County IT director after 39 years with the county.

His replacement will be Bart McKinney, County Mayor Jim Coppinger said.

Mr. McKinney has 29 years with the county and has been the top assistant to Mr. Turner.

The retirement of Mr. Turner is effective next month.

Mr. Turner started with the county as a computer operator in October 1975 when the county was still run by a council and county judge. He was chosen by Claude Ramsey for the director position in February 1996.

Since that time he has led the county through the Y2K, system conversions for the year 2000 and from a mainframe based system to a complete client server system.

He said, “I have watched Hamilton County develop from a quiet classic county government to a professional organization with which I have been proud to work. During the past 30 years proper procedures, policies and ethical guidelines have been established. I have seen effort made to assist employees to develop and excel at what they do.”
