Dalton State’s Concerts on Campus series continues with a performance by pianist Evelyn Dias on Friday, April 10, at 7:30 p.m. This free concert is open to the public and will be performed in Goodroe Auditorium of Gignilliat Memorial Hall at Dalton State.

“We’re extremely fortunate to be able to host gifted musicians like Dr. Dias on our campus,” said Dr. Ellie Jenkins, associate professor of music. “She’s playing an incredible, eclectic program of works by Bach, Prokofiev, and Carter, among others. To be able to hear such transcendent music performed by an artist of the caliber of Evelyn Dias is a rare opportunity.”

Dr. Dias began studying piano at the age of six. She has performed across the United States, France, the Czech Republic, as well as in her native country of India where she has performed at such venues as the National Center for the Performing Arts, British Council Division, Max Mueller Bhavan, Kala Academy, Alliance Française’s Theosophy Hall and on All India Radio.

In addition to her recently completed Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the Bienen School of Music at Northwestern University, she holds degrees in Economics and Statistics from Bombay University, as well as in Piano Performance from the University of Iowa.

Dr. Dias’s research includes a study of transcriptions of the ballets of Sergei Prokofiev, a project she has presented at the College Music Society Great Lakes conference in 2013. She formerly served as a piano instructor at Northwestern University and served as accompanist to the Evanston Children’s Choir. She is currently on the piano faculty at Chicago’s Merit School of Music and Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp in Michigan.
