A fire broke out Sunday night at bonding offices on the second floor of the Title Guaranty and Trust building on Walnut Street.
Fire officials said a few minutes before 7 p.m., Matthew Presley, a worker at ABC Bonding, smelled smoke and went to investigate. Soon he found smoke in the hallway of the second floor at 615 Walnut. Mr. Presley then called 911.
Six companies from the Chattanooga Fire Department responded and found a fire in the offices of Huckabee Bonding Company and Corky’s Bail Bond. Firefighters were able to quickly extinguish the fire and confirm that all parties were out of the building.
There were no injuries from the fire. The source of the fire appears to be electrical in nature. Damages are estimated at less than $10,000.
The Chattanooga Police Department and Hamilton County EMS assisted on the call.
Occupants said a computer caught fire in the office of Huckabee Bonding and the fire burned the computer, a desk and a nearby wall.
There was heavy smoke in the bonding offices.
However, there appeared to be little or no damage in the title company portion of the building, occupants said.
The building is across from the County Courthouse.
