HCDE Superintendent Rick Smith made his first of 11 presentations Monday to a group of about 125 concerned citizens and educators at East Hamilton Middle/High school.

The presentation was followed by questions from the audience in regard to the proposed 40-cent property tax increase. Alternative types of funding was discussed so homeowners will not bare the burden of the increase Mr. Smith is asking for.

The top school official plans 10 more similar community sessions.

Earlier Monday, County Commissioner Sabrena Smedley told the Pachyderm Club that every other avenue should be exhausted before the taxpayers are asked to pay more.
