WTCI To Release New Online Film "Underground Revealed"

  • Tuesday, April 7, 2015

WTCI invites the public to join the exploration of Chattanooga’s hidden history with Underground Revealed, a new episode of Greater Chattanooga, our online film series.

Officials said, "Chattanooga’s underground has long been a mystery, a part of the city’s history that’s been buried for decades.

"Between 1867 and the early 1900s the Tennessee River crested above flood stage 70 times, turning the city into a muddy mess and wreaking financial havoc on a burgeoning industrial economy.  Something had to be done.  Join WTCI’s crew and their guides, archeologist Dr. Nick Honerkamp and historian Maury Nicely as we research Chattanooga’s underground.

"Learning about and understanding our history is possible for everyone today thanks to the work of the Chattanooga History Center and the Chattanooga Public Library and the resources and outreach of organizations like Cornerstones, protecting historic properties, and Picnooga, a crowd-sourced media archive celebrating Chattanooga’s history. WTCI appreciates these partners and their cooperation on this project.

"WTCI serves over 400,000 households in a 35-county region with quality PBS programming, rich locally produced programming, educational outreach and a new online film series, Greater Chattanooga, sponsored in part by the local office of UBS Financial Services and EPB."

"EPB is proud to support a series that documents great stories from the Chattanooga area," says J. Ed. Marston, EPB Marketing vice president, "and we look forward to supporting this great community as it writes the next chapter."

Viewers can find these online films at wtciTV.org, at greaterchattanooga.org and through social media at Greater Chattanooga and WTCI-TV on Facebook and @greatercha and @wtci on Twitter.

"This short film series explores the people and ideas that make us all more aware, happier, and stronger as a community.  Enjoy these unique, local films on YouTube, on HD televisions with Apple TV and Roku and using the free, easy to use PBS app on televisions, tablets and smartphones," officials said.

Underground Revealed will debut online on Wednesday, April  8.  Viewers can see this sneak preview link, join the conversation with WGOW 102.3 Talk Radio’s Jeff Styles at 11:30 a.m., and visit www.greaterchattanooga.org to see this new adventure from WTCI, Chattanooga’s community PBS station.
