James Stansifer
James M. Stansifer, 91, of East Ridge, died unexpectedly on Monday, April 6, 2015 at his home.
Mr. Stansifer was born and raised in St. Elmo. He served with the Marines and saw action in the Marshal Islands, Pacific Theater.
He was retired from South Central Bell with 36 years of service as a manager in Business Services. He was a member of St. Elmo United Methodist Church having served on different committees and taught the Friendship Sunday School class. He was also a member of the Telephone Pioneer of America, was past commodore of The Chattanooga Boating Club.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Burl Stansifer and Emily Bradford Stansifer; brother, Joe Stansifer; granddaughter, Leslie Denise Stephenson; and grandson, Eric Thomas.
He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Peggy Mincher Stansifer; daughter, Lynda Diane Davis of Clearwater, FL; grandson, Carl Bray III of Alabama; several cousins from the Bradford and Stansifer Families, Ted Stansifer, Joe Stansifer, Joan Stansifer Hicks, Sandra Stansifer Abernathy, Nancy Bradford Hoover, Bill Skipper; brother-in-law, Don (Judy) Mincher; sister-in-law, Patricia Slatton; special friends, Jess Henry, Woods Casey and Bob Reggie Hixson; great neighbors who are also great friends, Cedric Malcom, Wilma and Ken Hall, Kyle and Danielle Boyd, Ted and Darleen Gass, Beth Oldham, Rev. Roy and Barbara Howard; and Buddys, Jethro and Abbie.
Visitation will be from 3-7 p.m. on Sunday, April 12, at the funeral home.
Graveside services will be 1:30 p.m. on Monday, April 13, at Chattanooga National Cemetery with Reverend Sullin Lamb.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Elmo United Methodist Church, American Cancer Society, or the charity of the donor’s choice.
Arrangements are by the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory, and Florist, 404 South Moore Road.
