Complimentary 24-Hour Bike Share Passes Offered On National Bike To Work Day, May 15

  • Monday, May 11, 2015

To celebrate cycling in Chattanooga and Bike Month’s signature event, National Bike to Work Day, GreenTrips and Bike Chattanooga have partnered to encourage Chattanoogans to try commuting to work by bicycle. Bike Chattanooga and GreenTrips will offer complimentary 24-hr access passes during Bike to Work Day on Friday.

Locals and visitors can visit any of Bike Chattanooga’s 33 Station Kiosks on Friday to take advantage of the complimentary 24-hour Access Pass. Bike share system ambassadors will be placed around the city to assist customers with their ride transaction. A credit or debit card is required to initiate rental but cards will not be charged for passes. The complimentary 24-hour Access Pass includes unlimited station-to-station trips 60 minutes or less. Trips exceeding 60 minutes will incur overage fees that will be covered by the customer.

Local bike shops and volunteer ride leaders will support Bike to Work Day by leading group rides from various locations throughout the community to a Free coffee, breakfast, and bicycle commuter expo at Miller Plaza.

Riders can visit http://www.outdoorchattanooga.com/programs/bike-to-work-day for event detail and ride start locations and times.

Bike to Work Day partners hope that these group rides will encourage first time commuters to give pedaling to work a try.  Bike Chattanooga Stations are located along each route where anyone without their own bike can join the ride.  All routes will follow bike lanes, greenways, and bike-friendly roads. The routes should all take around ½ hour (the Fry Center Station route along the Riverwalk will likely take a little longer).

The Bike to Work festivities at Miller Plaza will be from 7:30-9 a.m. to greet cyclists on their way to work with entertainment, free food and refreshing drinks. Bike Chattanooga will offer annual memberships at a discounted rate of $50 (regularly $75) to those that sign up during the National Bike to Work Day Event.  Mayor Andy Berke will unveil Chattanooga’s new Silver Level Bicycle Friendly Community sign at 7:45 a.m. The League of American Bicyclists upgraded Chattanooga from Bronze to a Silver Bicycle Friendly Community award in recognition of Chattanooga’s commitment to improving conditions for bicycling through investment in bicycling promotion, education programs, infrastructure, and pro-bicycling policies.
