Chattanooga Music Club Presents Former Scholarship Winners In Concert

  • Monday, May 11, 2015

The Chattanooga Music Club will present former scholarship winners in recital at Summitt Pianos on May 17 at 2:30 p.m.  Performing will be Abigail Hinchman, Alicia Taylor Church and Chris Riggins.

Abigail is currently a rising Junior at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.

She is working toward a B.M. in Instrumental Performance with an emphasis on the piano, studying under the direction of Dr. Sin-Hsing Tsai.  She was a 2013 scholarship winner. She has begun using her musical training to teach piano lessons. Abigail loves playing the keyboard regularly in a church setting. In her free time, she enjoys rock climbing and a variety of other outdoor activities. Abigail is one of 12 children.

Alicia was the 1994 Chattanooga Music Club College Scholarship Winner in Voice.  She graduated from Chattanooga School for the Arts and Sciences.  She studied Piano and Voice with Charlynne Fry and Voice with Dr. Rebecca St. Goar. Alicia received a Music Education Degree from Carson-Newman College, where she was a member of the A Cappella Choir and played the role of Rose inThe Secret Garden and the Baker’s Wife in Into the Woods.  After completing her degree, she taught elementary music at Cloud Springs Elementary in Catoosa County, for six years.

She is pursuing her certification in Kodály from the Kodály Institute at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.  She homeschools her three children and directs the ONEworship Kidz choir at Woodland Park Baptist Church during the school year, including productions such as Under God’s Sea in 3DThe Star Factor, and It’s Cool in the Furnace.  She most recently played Tilly in It’s A Wonderful Life with Storyteller Productions.  Alicia is also an active member of the ONEworship Choir at WPBC.

Chris was the 1991 scholarship winner.  He is a graduate of the prestigious Cincinnati Conservatory of Music.  His passion for music has led him to an extraordinary career. Polished, charming, and warm-hearted, Chris has truly become a remarkable showman with mass appeal.  As evidence of his appealing to the masses, he just shared the stage with Wynonna Judd, Jordan Sparks, Melinda Doolittle, Amy Grant and Michael W. Smith accompanied by the Nashville Symphony.

In 2009, Chris delivered another “beautiful” performance as he was honored to “open” the live show at the

18th Annual Los Angeles Music Awards. Chris is garnishing some well-deserved recognition from peers and music industry executives and is absolutely thrilled to have been nominated for the “Best International Vocalist Of The Year.”

Included in that show were honorees such as Jim Brickman, who was given the Career Achievement Award, and the Nelson Brothers (Mathew and Gunnar) whose legendary family received the Lifetime Achievement award.

Chris Riggins continually performs around the globe and consistently treats his audiences to the highest caliber of entertainment - headlining on cruise ships and appearing at corporate/special events and concerts.

The public is invited, but seating is limited Please RSVP to Buddy Shirk by calling 423-499-0600 or via email buddy@summittpianos.com
