Faye Smith Riggs died at her residence on Wednesday, May 13, 2015. She was 79.
A resident of Rhea County, she was born at Rhea Springs the daughter of Willie Houston and Minnie Jane Miller Smith on July 31. She was the granddaughter of Jason and Melissa Morgan Miller and John H. Smith and Martha Turner Smith.
She worked at Kayser Roth for over 20 years. She also worked at Lays 5 & Dime.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 36 years, George Riggs, her parents, sisters, Virgie Malone, Ruby Fugate and JoAnn Smith, brothers, Hubert, John Lester Smith, Dexter Smith and Paul Smith, brothers-in-law, Clifford Malone, Charlie Fugate and Bill Ellis, Joe Greenway and Floyd Holly, sisters-in-law, Jean Monday Smith, Mary Smith, Cynthia Greenway, Fannie Riggs and Mary Lois Holly, and several nieces and nephews and cousins.
Survivors include her children, Charles and Kenny and Dean of Dayton; her daughter, Teresa Hulgan of Dayton; her adopted children who she loved just like they were her own, Patricia Maines-Riggs, Peggy Riggs and Bob Hulgan, all of Dayton; sister, Iva Ellis, and sister-in-law, Rita Green Smith, both of Dayton; grandchildren, Derrick (Bobby King) Hale, Brittani Hale, Tori Hale and Michalea Hale, Rob (Shauntelle)Hulgan, Tim Riggs, Brett, Jacob and Nick Riggs, all of Dayton, Janet (Houston) Edgeman of Rossville Ga, Beverly (Jason) Lynn of Rockwood, Emerald (Jason) Gandee of Ohio; great-grandchildren, Braydon Riggs - Kite, Keydon Hawkins, Ansley, Bella King and Lilly and Amelia Hale, Paisley Hale, Issac, Eric, Clayton and Cody Edgeman; several nieces and nephews, and cousins, and special friends, Mike Hale and Margaret Wilson.
Funeral services will be at Garrison Funeral Home on Sunday, May 17, at 2 p.m. with the Reverend Bill Ewing officiating.
Burial will be the Ad Smith Cemetery where she will be buried between her husband and brother Lester Smith.
Family will receive friends from 5-9 p.m. on Saturday, May 16, at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Daniel Lytle, Greg Smith, Tracy Tumlin, Chris Rice, Mike Hale and Calvin Powell. Honorary pallbearers will be Drs. Stuart Bacon and Daniel Logan, Holly Blaylock, Herbie Lankey and Billy Ellis.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Garrison Fire Department and the Rhea County Rescue Squad or Rhea of Sunshine.
