Wirt H. “Joe” Gordon
Wirt H. “Joe” Gordon, 89, of Lafayette, Georgia, died on Tuesday, May 12, 2015 in a local health care facility.
He was retired from Smith Transfer Trucking and held memberships at Woodstation Baptist Church, Tompkins Masonic Lodge #466, Eastern Star, Alhambra Shrine, Scottish Rites and Oddfellows and he was a U. S. Army veteran during World War II. His love of his church and his family will always be remembered.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jerry and Fannie Gordon, four brothers, Robert, Edward, Oscar and Jay Gordon and sister, Ethel Cordell.
Survivors include his wife, Maxine Blevins Gordon, son, David Gordon, daughter, Vickie Eskew, sisters, Mary Hegwood, Ruth Hale, Janice Hixson, Wanda Leonard and Emma Weaver, brother, William Gordon, step-son, Chuck (Cyndi) Blevins, daugters-in-law, Alma Ingle and Cathy Ingle, six grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 16, at 11 a.m. in the South Crest Chapel of Lane Funeral Home with Reverend Damon Perry officiating. Burial will follow in the Tennessee-Georgia Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends on Friday, May 15, from 4-8 p.m. in the funeral home.
Arrangements are by the South Crest Chapel of Lane Funeral Home and Crematory at the end of Historic Missionary Ridge, Rossville.
