Outfielder Travis Harrison recorded a career-high five RBIs to carry the Lookouts (23-13) to a 10-9 win over the Montgomery Biscuits (15-21) and extend the team's winning streak to five games.
Alex Wimmers made the start and went the first five innings. He gave up five runs on five hits and a walk. He struck out nine.
The scoring in this back-and-forth affair began early. Harrison scorched his first double of the game with two on in the first to put the first two runs on the board. Montgomery cut the lead down to one with a run in the second, but Chattanooga continued to increase their lead.
In the third inning top prospect Byron Buxton got on base with a single and later scored on a sacrifice fly by Harrison. The team's lead increased to four in the fourth on back-to-back doubles by Heiker Meneses and Buxton.
Montgomery might have been down, but they were not out. The Biscuits loaded the bases quickly in the fifth on a lead-off double, a walk and a bunt single. A two-run double by Tommy Coyle and a two-run single by Boog Powell tied the game at five.
With the game tied Miguel Sano got the team's offense rolling with a single to start off the fifth. With one out Max Kepler hit a single to move Sano to third and both runners scored on a two-run double by Mike Gonzales.
An inning later the score became 10-5 on a Buxton RBI triple, his league leading seventh of the year, and a two-run double by Travis Harrison, his league leading 14th of the year.
The Biscuits mounted a furious comeback in the eighth and ninth innings, but fell one run short.
Starting pitcher Wimmers (W, 2-0) earned the win and tied his season-high with nine strikeouts. Cole Johnson came on and struck out four over two scoreless innings. Tim Shibuya was charged with three runs (two earned) on two hits in the eighth inning.
Jake Reed was handed a two-run lead into the ninth. He gave up one run on two hits, but it was good enough to record his first save of the year.
