Dr. Chad Schrock
Lee University has named Dr. Chad Schrock, assistant professor of English, as the recipient of the 2015 Excellence in Scholarship Award.
The winner of this award is chosen each year by the Faculty Committee on Research and Scholarship. Lee President Dr. Paul Conn officially recognized Dr. Schrock for this award during spring commencement.
Dr. Schrock has been an assistant professor of English at Lee University since 2010, specializing in early British literature. He received his doctorate in medieval literature from the Pennsylvania State University, his master’s in English from James Madison University, his master’s of divinity from Eastern Mennonite Seminary, and his bachelor’s from Pensacola Christian College.
His first book, “Consolation in Medieval Narrative,” is forthcoming from Palgrave Macmillan this month. Elsewhere he has articles published or forthcoming on literature from the eighth, twelfth, fourteenth, sixteenth, seventeenth, nineteenth, and twentieth centuries. Recent topics include Beowulf (English Studies), Piers Plowman (Literature and Theology), Chaucer’s Merchant’s Tale (Philological Quarterly), and T. S. Eliot’s Little Gidding (Essays in Criticism).
Dr. Schrock is married to Rachel, who also works at Lee, and they have a son Toby.
“Chad Schrock’s forthcoming book and his record of research publications in highly regarded academic journals attest to his talents as a scholar and critic,” said Dr. Jean Eledge, chair of the Department of Language and Literature at Lee. “I am deeply appreciative of the powerful model of the teacher-scholar that he brings to our students, while distinguishing himself and Lee University in the area of scholarship. He is a most deserving recipient of this award.”
The Excellence in Scholarship Award is one of three faculty excellence awards recognizing teaching, scholarship and advising. They are considered the highest honors bestowed on Lee faculty each year.
