University of Tennessee at Chattanooga’s Davis Tull was taken in the fifth round of today’s NFL Draft by the New Orleans Saints.  Tull, a three-time All-American and three time Southern Conference Defensive Player of the Year was the 148th overall pick in this year’s class.

Tull played defensive end throughout his collegiate career and is the SoCon’s all-time leader with 37.5 sacks.  He is the first Moc drafted since quarterback B.J. Coleman (2009-11) was taken by Green Bay in the seventh round (243) in 2012.

Tull joins Coleman and Buster Skrine (2007-10) as the third Moc picked in the draft in the Russ Huesman era (since 2009).   Skrine, who recently signed with the Jets, was a fifth round selection of the Cleveland Browns in 2011.

Terrell Owens is still the highest draft pick in school history.  He was a third round choice (89th overall) of the San Francisco 49ers in 1996.

Tull, a two-time Academic All-American, is the first Moc taken by New Orleans.  He joins Skrine and Cincinnati Bengal Chris Lewis Harris (2008-11) as the three former Mocs on current NFL rosters.
