CTC Youth Theatre Announces School Show Schedules For 2015-2016 Season

  • Wednesday, May 20, 2015

The Youth Theatre of the Chattanooga Theatre Centre is now taking group reservations for daytime school performances for the coming season. These performances are in addition to the regular schedule of public performances by the young actors.

Through these performances, students enjoy what is often their first encounter with live theatre. To link the experience to the classroom, CTC educators create online Study Guides for teachers packed with background information, thought and conversation starters, project ideas and more. These study guides are available in PDF form two weeks prior to the school shows.

Ticket pricing is $4.50 per student, with one complimentary adult/chaperone ticket per 10 paid students. Reservations for public school, private school and home school groups are available now by calling the Theatre Centre box office at 267-8534 Tuesday-Friday, 9 a.m.-5 p.m.  Teachers are encouraged to schedule class field trips now while space is available at the desired time.

From the author of “Where the Wild Things Are” and the Grammy Award winning musical icon whose album, “Tapestry,” held the record for most weeks at No. 1 by a female artist for more than 20 years, comes a fantastically fun and funny musical. On a hot July Saturday, the kids from The Nutshell Library are bored and need something to do. Rosie, the sassiest kid on her block of Brooklyn’s Avenue P, entertains the group and herself by acting out fantasies of being a Hollywood star and decides to produce an imaginary Oscar®-winning movie musical about her life and in particular the demise of her brother named Chicken Soup, to be called “Did you Hear What Happened to Chicken Soup?” A delightfully silly musical based on pre-school books but delivered in a way that will entertain kids of all ages! Book and Lyrics by Maurice Sendak. Music by Carole King.
Approximate Running Time: 1 Hour
