Donald Dorris
Donald James Dorris, 65, son of the late Robert and Linda Dorris, died on May 18, 2015 from a stroke the day before.
Born and raised in Dade County, Florida, he moved to western North Carolina, then St. Louis. He moved to Seattle before returning to North Carolina, finally settling in Fort Oglethorpe in 2000.
Enlisting in the Army in 1968, he served as an avionics instructor at Ft. Gordon and Senior Avionics Mechanic in Vietnam where he earned the Bronze Star and Army Commendation medals before his honorable discharge in 1974.
He graduated from Southwestern Technical Institute with an associate's degree in Electronics Engineering Technology beginning a varied career in communications service, reliability/test engineering for R&D, and industrial control applications retiring in 2013. Other sidelines and hobbies included residential construction, furniture design/restoration, automobile/motorcycle restoration and solar water heating design/fabrication.
Donald is survived by his wife, Bonny Jean Sinclair, and sons, Eric Kyle Dorris Sinclair, Keefer Dylan Sinclair Dorris and Ian Todd Raney; brother, Robert R. Dorris, Jr.; and sisters, Martha C. Miller and Laurie A. Dorris.
In lieu of a memorial service, donations are requested to the Disabled American Veteran or Wounded Warriors Project.
Mr. Dorris will be laid to rest at the Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis.
