Loma Mellie Stone Williams, of Etowah, Tennessee, passed away Thursday, May 21, 2015 at an Etowah hospital as a result of a four wheeler accident.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John O. and Dovie Burris Stone; all her brothers, Buck, Luther, Olice, R.B. and Charlie; and sister, Estelle Norris.

She is survived by her husband of nearly 65 years, Frank Williams; four children, Deborah, Dan, Mark and Jeff and their spouses Terry Blair, Andi, Frances and Kelly; her grandchildren, Dustin, Savannah, Taylor, Toby, Sadie, Kane and Maggie; three great-grandchildren, Laney, Lorelai, and Sawyer; her older sister, Theo Yates of Benton, TN; many nephews and nieces; and special neighbors who brought food (she loved to eat!), checked on her and her husband, dropped by for visits, did chores for her and generally enriched her life.

She spent her last days doing what she wanted. She went to church, used her Mother’s Day money shopping for new clothes, attended her great-granddaughter’s kindergarten graduation, sat in her carport talking with neighbors, gossiped on the phone with her special friends, planted her garden and flower seeds, cleaned up her yard, and generally enjoyed her life doing what she wanted to do. She was born on February 10, 1930 and grew up in Polk County working in the fields and picking cotton. She didn’t have a high school education, but her impact is so strong on her family and friends that she changed many lives.

Funeral services will be conducted at 8 p.m. Saturday, May 23, at Higgins Funeral Home with the Reverend Robbie Hatcher officiating. Interment is at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 24, in the Four Mile Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. Saturday, May 23, in the chapel of Higgins Funeral Home.
