Amanda Carmichael
A Chattanooga public relations executive accidentally got entangled in Scottish politics on Friday when a Tweet went awry.
Amanda Carmichael said, "Oh yes. It's been fun. I'm just waiting for the call from Mr. Alistair Carmichael asking for my public relations services."
Alistair Carmichael - no apparent relation to the Chattanoogan - is the former Scottish secretary.
First Minister Nicola Sturgeon earlier Friday accidentally tagged Amanda Carmichael in a tweet about the Scottish politician.
Alistair Carmichael on Friday had admitted that he authorized the leaking of a memo concerning a meeting between Ms. Sturgeon and the French ambassador last month.
Ms. Sturgeon responded by suggesting that Mr. Carmichael consider resigning his position as a Scottish MP.
The Twitter mishap sent dozens of Sturgeon backers to the Amanda Carmichael Twitter page.
She said she was flooded with Tweets from people she did not know urging the other Carmichael to step down.
The Chattanoogan altered her Twitter biography to clearly state that she was not secretary of state of Scotland.
She did receive an apology from the First Minister, saying she was sorry for any inconvenience she had caused.
Amanda Carmichael said, "It all started around 10:30 this morning. By 11 others had noticed it and I tweeted about 11:10. I received an apology from Nicola Sturgeon at 1:45. Now everyone is just retweeting or making comments about how funny the mixup is. I know that this is a very serious situation for Mr. Carmichael but this might have been just the PR he needed!"
