Chuck Watts And Robert Lee Lucas To Perform At Opening Of Funky Junktion In Chattanooga Valley

  • Wednesday, May 27, 2015

If you visit Chattanooga Valley south of St. Elmo, you are bound to notice the flocks of bicyclists pedaling the flat roadway just south of the Tennessee/Georgia state line.  Opening soon is a roadside attraction for the casual or athletic bicycling tourist.

Funky Junktion will offer refreshing drinks, water fountains, hammocks and comfy chairs for a shady rest stop.

Elizabeth Miller bought the countryside property knowing that the big barn would be useful for her art and antique collection, and also enjoyable as a country getaway, 10 minutes from urbanity.  She will open the barn every weekend with a monthly performance or workshop featuring artists from around the globe.

The public is invited to the grand opening for a two-day free jam session.  Blues in the Country features two guitar greats, Chuck Watts and Robert Lee Lucas.  Watts and Lucas began playing together in Pittsburgh decades ago and this will be a reunion for them.

You might recognize Chuck from his annual trip to play at Bonnaroo by his long silver hair and his astonishing collection of vintage guitars.

After Bonnaroo, Watts and his brothers (The Watts Bros. Band) will open for White Fang at the Palace Theatre in Pittsburgh on July 20.

This will be a rare appearance for composer/guitarist, Robert Lee Lucas who regularly performed until 15 years ago.

He said, “By chance I became an appliance repairman and realized life was so much easier that way.  I still write and record in the safety of my home, and perform out once every four years, like the Olympics.”

Players of all ages and abilities are encouraged to bring instruments including brass and percussion and plan to express yourselves freely.  Delicious food and beverages will be provided courtesy of Whole Foods.

If you must arrive by automobile, please park on the side of the street in front of the blue cottage at 1250 Chattanooga Valley Road at the junction of Hwy. 193 and Chattanooga Valley Road.

Funky Junktion also features a pet cemetery and bed and breakfast for your traveling guests.
