The American Council of Employees (ACE) on Friday released additional details on its ongoing work with Volkswagen management to establish a local works council at the Chattanooga facility.
Sean Moss, ACE president, summarized recent progress made by the “ACE-Volkswagen working group,” saying, “In ACE’s meetings with management this month, the focus has been on ironing out the details of our proposal and working together to create a complete process and then timeline for establishing the various parts of our works council model.”
The ACE works council model, first presented in April, now includes specifications on the selection and terms of works council members and provides specific details on how certain responsibilities would be delegated. These recent additions reflect nearly two months of input from VW-Chattanooga management, as well as numerous suggestions from ACE’s hourly and salaried employee groups, it was stated.
An updated summary of the ACE works council proposal, which outlines the model’s three committee types and their functions, has been made available at www.ACEchattanooga.com.
Thomas Haney, ACE Member-at-Large and lead representative of ACE’s salaried workers at that group’s meetings with management, said there is broad support for ACE’s works council proposal, saying, “ACE’s proposal quickly gained support among both blue- and white-collar workers, and now, with management joining in to help improve on our model, each day is one step closer to establishing a real works council here in Chattanooga.”
