Two GPS seniors, Carter Dickinson and Chelsea Jackson, have signed papers to continue their athletic careers at the college level. Carter, who will run cross country at Maryville College, is a three-year member of the varsity team. Chelsea was successful at UTK cheerleader tryouts and will be on the football and basketball squads for the Volunteers.
Both girls have participated in Young Life at GPS. Carter visited both Birmingham-Southern and Tusculum before choosing Maryville for her college experience. Chelsea was one of four freshmen females selected out of over 50 trying out for the UTK Vols.
GPS Cheerleading coach Michal Howick, pictured with her new Tennessee Volunteer cheerleader, reportedly was on pins and needles during the weekend-long tryouts, keeping in touch by email and sending out updates via Twitter. On Thursday she heard that GPS will have three former GPS/McCallie Blue Crew cheerleaders at the college level in 2015-16: Jackson with Tennessee, Taylor Pels ’14 at College of Holy Cross, and Ann Potter ’14 at Samford.
