A new type of sidewalk advertising by the owner of Vaudeville Cafe has caught the attention of city inspectors.
Gary Robkin, chief zoning inspector, said his office got word about the commercials on city streets by the riverfront last week.
He said he had just issued a notice of correction to Vaudeville Cafe owner Chris Hampton.
Several stenciled ads for the websites of Vaudeville Cafe and a rolling video firm are along Riverfront Parkway at the site of the Riverbend festival, where tens of thousands of people will be congregating starting at the end of the week.
Mr. Robkin said the ads are applied by placing a stencil on the sidewalk and using a pressure washer. He said it leaves the image that is inside the stencil.
Asked how the images could be removed, Mr. Robkin said that might be by pressure washing also.
Mr. Hampton could not immediately be reached for comment.
Mr. Robkin said the city sidewalks would be covered with similar commercial and website images if that type advertising was allowed.
