Bradley Commission To Consider 10-Cent Property Tax Increase To Fund New Lake Forest Middle School

  • Thursday, June 11, 2015

The Bradley County Commission will consider a resolution on Monday at noon for a 10-cent property tax increase to fund the new Lake Forest School.

The commission and school board have been struggling to find a replacement for the middle school for several years.

The budget presented by County Mayor D. Gary Davis did not include any tax hikes.

Another resolution asks the Tennessee Department of Transportation to conduct a study of tractor-trailers on North Lee Highway/Highway 11 from Paul Huff Parkway to the county line.

A 17-year-old girl died recently in that stretch of highway when her vehicle was struck by a logging truck.

The commission will also consider a bid of $60,000 from Alan Curtis for 11 acres of county property known as the Mike Burke Park.

Another resolution would allow the Bradley SPCA to draw an additional $10,000 per quarter for the remainder of its contract. The Davis budget included raising the SPCA amount from $80,000 per year to $120,000.

Sheriff Eric Watson said his department is looking into getting involved in picking up stray animals.

Another item is a memorandum of understanding on the Veterans Home property.

The commission will also hear budget appeals.
