Novalima

The Nightfall Concert Series continues Friday with the cutting-edge sounds of headliner Novalima at 8 p.m., preceded by local opener Smooth Dialects at 7 p.m.

Review for Novalima:
Started by four friends from Lima with a shared passion for traditional Afro-Peruvian music and global DJ culture, Novalima stands in the common ground bridging past and future, uniting tradition and innovation. While their sound is futuristic and cutting-edge, the roots of Novalima’s music reach back hundreds of years.

The founders of Novalima, Ramon Perez-Prieto, Grimaldo Del Solar, Rafael Morales and Carlos Li Carrillo, became friends and started playing together in Lima during their high school years, having a pivotal part in the 80s underground hardcore punk, and the 90s psychedelic scenes.

During their career, Novalima has gathered worldwide critical acclaim from mainstream media sources (NPR, UK Guardian, Wall Street Journal, La Presse, Metro, Billboard.) The group has also delivered legendary performances around the world at festivals such as Roskilde, WOMAD, Pirineos Sur, NYC Central Park, Montreal Jazz Festival and Chicago’s Millennium Park, earned a Latin Grammy nomination for Best Alternative Album and were featured in cult filmmaker Robert Rodriguez’s hit Mexploitation movie Machete.

Review for Smooth Dialects:

The local opener, Smooth Dialects, creates a mix of soulful R&B mixed with jazz, funk and world music. Maria (vocals) is a classically trained pianist who's smooth but powerful voice keeps your soul begging for more. Josh (guitar) creates such a soulful palette of tone one couldn't help but dance. Ryan Crabtree (bass) combines classical technique with jazz theory to fill the pocket. Golden Styles (keys/synth) puts the smooth in Smooth Dialects with his harmonic genius behind the keys. Michael Royer, (trumpet) adds that gritty yet sultry 'Miles Davis-esque' flare. Josh Dunlap (saxophone) proves that being a sexy sax man can mean so much more. Chris Smith (percussion) lays down a groove so heavy you can't help but feel it all over.

Presented and produced by Chattanooga Presents, this 19-week free outdoor concert series is held every Friday at Miller Plaza and features headline performances by a broad spectrum of music performed by superior national and international artists.
