Chattanooga Firefighters Have Busy Day

  • Wednesday, June 17, 2015

In addition to the fire and chemical leak at NA Industries Wednesday morning, Chattanooga firefighters have been out in the hot sun on other incidents.

Chattanooga firefighters responded to a waste pit fire at Clean Harbors, at 3300 Cummings Road Wednesday afternoon. One firefighter was suffering from heat exhaustion and transported by Hamilton County EMS to Erlanger Medical Center. After cooling down and receiving fluids, the firefighter is expected to make a complete recovery and be released around 6 p.m. Instead of finishing his shift, he will be sent home to finish recuperating.

Firefighters also responded to a gas leak Wednesday afternoon on East Brainerd Road, near the intersection of Givens Road. It involved a four-inch gas line. Battalion Chief Rick Boatwright said a few businesses were evacuated as a precaution, but no one was injured. East Brainerd Road was blocked off until technicians with the Chattanooga Gas Company were able to shut off the leak.
