An employee at Safeco of Tennessee, Geraldine Jordan, 29, was arrested Wednesday night for theft over $500 and criminal simulation.

Ms. Jordan received a paycheck from her employer on July 8, 2013 in the amount of $269.40 and then electronically deposited this into her Bank of America account. Then almost a year later on June 2, 2014, the same check was altered and redeposited for $669.40, police said.

The Bank of America fraud department stated that Ms. Jordan used her handheld and mobile banking application to deposit the altered check. The account has since been flagged by the bank for fraudulent deposits and her accounts are now overdrawn.

Safeco of Tennessee is a member of Liberty Mutual Group, a national U.S. insurance company worth several billion dollars. The division in Chattanooga deals primarily with auto, home, and renter’s insurance.
