Mocs Volleyball Adds Another Big Recruit

  • Thursday, June 18, 2015

-It’s easy to see why Chattanooga Mocs volleyball coach Travis Filar is excited about getting the 2015 season started. Along with a talented returning core, he and his staff added one the country’s best recruiting classes according to PrepVolleyball.com.

The website ranked essentially its Top 100 recruiting hauls with a Top 30 followed by 25 “Highest Honorable Mentions” and 42 more “High Honorable Mention”.

The Mocs fell among high honorable mentions and was the only Southern Conference program highlighted.

“We are excited to get to work with this group,” Filar stated. “One of the most important things was to get hard-working, competitive and confident student-athletes that fit within the fabric of our team. I think the culture that we have steadily built is ready to reap those rewards. It was vital to get talent that fit within that culture, and I truly believe this group has a great future ahead.”

The newest Mocs include: Miranda Elpers, 5-9 OH, Assumption (Louisville, Kentucky); Lindsey Farrell, 5-5 libero, Bartlett (Tennessee); Ally Ford, 5-10 OH, Flint Hill (Oakton, Virginia); Rachel Petkosh, 5-7 libero, Merritt Island (Florida) and Emily Plumlee, 6-1 MB, Hickory (Chesapeake, Virginia). The ranking came before news of transfer setter Madison Bergren from UT Martin. The five signees accumulated All-American, Gatorade Player of the Year, all-state and all-region honors winning six state tournament titles.

“This is the second time in four years that we’ve been honored,” Filar added. “Getting “High Honorable Mention” two of the last four years is solid. We just need to keep working hard and preparing as a team for the 2015 season so we can accomplish the goals that are already set before us.”

The Mocs open the season August 28-29 in Maclellan Gym for the Chattanooga Classic presented by Hampton Inn & Suites (Downtown Chattanooga). The tournament presents the first three of a 14-match home slate. Admission is free.
