The Hixson Kiwanis Club celebrated it’s 68th anniversary on Thursday with a banquet at Rib & Loin in Hixson. Kentucky-Tennessee Kiwanis District Governor P.R. Cook brought remarks congratulating the club and Hamilton County Assessor of Property Bill Bennett was the featured speaker. The club was joined by representatives of the Downtown Chattanooga and Brainerd Kiwanis Clubs.
The highlight of the evening was the awarding of the 4th Annual Howard Somparac Award for Service to the Hixson Community.
This year’s honoree is longtime Kiwanian Gene Huffine. Gene is an active member of Hixson Methodist Church, Hixson Area Chamber of Commerce, and a board member of the Friends of Hixson. He is a 2009 inductee into the Greater Chattanooga Sports Hall of Fame.
