While hall of famer Maggie Scott (Charleston, Tenn.) plays for the first flight title Friday morning (vs. No.1 Viola Greenwood), a pair of college kids will tee it up at No.1 at the Chattanooga Golf and Country Club for the title of Tennessee Women’s State Amateur champion.

Friday Finals: Starting at 7:30 a.m., the fourth flight finalists tee off first, followed by those in flight three, two and one with the championship finalists going last. The public can attend for free.

Championship Flight: It’s the battle of the bracket busters as No.15 Katie Story (Belmont College) takes on No.8 Allyson Dunn (Tenn. Tech).

Thursday was a very good day for Story as she defeated No. 7 Emily Miller, 1-up in the quarterfinals and No.3 Samantha Griffith (Ooltewah HS/Lipscomb Univ.), 1-up 19 holes in the semis.  She also upset No.2 Blakesly Warren, 2-up in the round of 16.

Dunn knocked out No.1 Riley Rennell, 6&5 in the Thursday morning quarterfinals and edged No.4 Katherine Holmes, 3&1 in the afternoon semifinals.

In the semis, Story was 2-down with three holes to go, but won No.16 with a birdie, halved No.17 with a par and forced extra holes with a par on No.18 as Griffith could not get up and down for her par from a green side bunker.

Sand was again Griffith’s nemesis on the first extra hole (No.1) as she put her tee shot in a fairway bunker and needed two more shots to reach the green. Story put her tee shot safely in the fairway and was on in two and two-putted for the win.

“Samantha and I are best friends so it is difficult to play each other and I told her if I was going to lose to anyone it needed to be her,” said Story (Dickson, Tenn.) who is playing in her first state amateur.

No.1 Seeds:  A pair of No.1 seeds - Viola Greenwood in first flight and Carol Hornstra in fourth flight – reached the finals.
