Walter Carl House, 73, of Fort Payne, Alabama formerly of Chattanooga, Tennessee died on Friday, June 26.

Mr. House is survived by his wife, Vicki Bailey House and four children, Tammy Jeanne (Roy) Bunn, Janet Lee (Freddie) Plank, Dustin House and Wayne (Michelle) Woodrum. He also left behind four grandchildren, Benjamin Ford, Sarah Ford Brake, Matthew Ford and Drew Burlingham and four great-grandchildren.

Walt grew up in Rosalie, Al., the only child of Porter Lee and Myrtle Laney Howse.  He was a veteran of the Vietnam War where he served as an advisor from 1963-64 and earned several medals including the Purple Heart. He also served with distinction in Desert Storm and continued his 26-year military service with the National Guard. He was a lifetime member of the VFW Post 4848 and DAV.

Walt served 32 years with the Chattanooga Fire Department concluding his career as captain of Station number 12, North Chattanooga.  He was an active Mason and served as Master of the John Bailey Nicklin Post transferring to the Red Bank Post currently a member of the Fort Payne Post.  He served as the president of Past Masters Association for the Eastern District of Tennessee.  He also served as a Sequoyah Volunteer Fire Department board member and was a member of the Chattanooga Area Historic and Relic Association where he devoted time maintaining the Civil War Cemetary on Bonny Oaks Drive.  He also was an active member of the Republican Party.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, June 30, from 4-8 p.m. and on Wednesday, from 12-1 p.m. at Chattanooga Funeral Home-North Chapel.

Services will be held on Wednesday, July 1, at the Chattanooga Funeral Home, North Chapel at 1 p.m. Interment will follow in National Cemetery, with the ceremony to be conducted by Purple Heart Association, Ernie Pyle Chapter 1945.
