A Beech Street resident said he had to defend himself with a knife when a man kicked down his front door and burst inside.

Jeffery Lee Pines, 50, of 7617 Bishop Dr., was charged with aggravated burglary and assault.

In the incident last Friday, Dan Harris said he was lying down when he heard someone trying to break into his front door. He said he immediately ran to the kitchen to get a knife to defend himself.

He said someone kicked in the door and ran toward him. He said he cut the intruder on his right cheek and the back of his neck, then the man ran back out.

A neighbor, Robert Sisemore, said he saw a man run out of his neighbor's residence in a panic. Then he said the man a few minutes later tried to go back inside.

He said when he tried to stop the man, he was pushed to the ground. He said he punched the man to get him off of him. Police then arrived.

Pines had aggravated robbery and carjacking charges in 1996 that were dismissed. He was given an eight-year prison sentence for a 2004 robbery. He has a number of other burglary and theft cases on his record.
