Signal Mountain Lions Club Holds Annual 4th Of July BBQ

  • Tuesday, June 30, 2015

The Signal Mountain Lions Club is preparing for their annual Fourth of July barbecue, to be held at Althaus Park from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.

“The Lions Club BBQ has been a Signal Mountain tradition since 1960,” barbecue chair Ralph Mann said of the annual event.

The Lions will be cooking 1,800 pounds of pork, said Mr. Mann. Barbecue plates with beans and slaw, bulk BBQ, Hot Dogs and Funnel Cakes will be available.

A convenient drive-thru pickup option will be available, however those wishing to make a day of it can enjoy live music, a magician, and a Bounce Castle and Slide. Kids can learn how to make Humming Bird feeders in a class sponsored by Hummingbird Pastaria.

All money raised will go into the club’s general funds to be distributed to community organizations such as the Mountain Education Foundation and Signal Mountain Library as well as area and national charities related to eyesight. The club distributed $30,000 last year that it raised through fundraisers including its Fourth of July and Labor Day barbecues and car raffle.

"Any money the Lions Club gets, we give back,” said Mr. Mann.

Weather permitting, the annual Fourth of July fireworks extravaganza will take place on the Signal Mountain Golf & Country club course around 9:45 p.m.
