The Lee University Summer Chamber Choir will present a concert in Pangle Hall on Saturday at 5 p.m.
Summer Chamber Choir is made up of students from across the School of Music that assemble for one week during the summer to rehearse choral music of various styles in a chamber choir setting. The choir is conducted by Dr. Jonathan Rodgers, assistant professor of music at Lee.
The concert, titled “The Life of Jesus Christ in Choral Music,” will feature sacred works by Weelkes, Chesnokov, Duruflé, Chilcott, and a piece by Rodgers. This concert is in preparation for a visit to Covenant Presbyterian Church in Nashville on Sunday where the choir will sing in the morning worship services and present a 3 p.m. concert.
Dr. Rodgers, who joined Lee’s faculty in 2013, completed his doctor of musical arts degree in choral conducting from the University of Southern Mississippi. At Lee, Dr. Rodgers conducts Choral Union as well as the all-female ensemble Ladies of Lee. In addition to his scholarly activities and conducting, he is an active pianist, church musician, and composer.
