Martina McBride Appears Saturday Night At Riverbend

Motown meets Country Music at Riverbend. How is that, you ask? Being that I am a fine gentleman, I will tell you. Martina McBride, the Country music superstar over the past couple decades with 17 CMA Best Female Vocalist nominations has gotten the soul bug. She has shown the world that she can do Motown as well as anyone with her 2014 album release, Everlasting. This album consists of several Motown favorites, written by many of the all-time greats like Sam Cooke, Otis Redding, and Jerry Butler.

Just covering a classic song isn’t enough, though. If you are going to do it right, you better have a killer band. Enter the horn section. Some of Nashville’s top rated horn players join in to make that Motown Sound come alive. You better have the back-up pipes, too. She has them – three fine back-up vocalists. All in all, she is bringing a great sound and wonderful band.

But what about all of her Country number ones? Fear not, my friends, as she will still do those big songs that have won her all the awards. Watch for Independence Day, A Broken Wing, and This One’s For The Girls and many more of her number one hits to be sprinkled in with her Motown-type set. Still don’t believe me about the Motown sound? Try this, then come back and read the rest of this article to learn even more. Martina hits the Coke Stage at 9:30 p.m.

But Mama, what’s there to do before the 9:30 p.m. Martina show? How about War? You know the songs – Cisco Kid, Spill the Wine, Low Rider, Why Can’t We Be Friends, Summer, and The World Is A Ghetto. War will bring some California Funk to Riverbend and I am betting the crowd will be singing along with most of the songs. War takes the Coke Stage at 6:30 p.m.

Ok Bob, you got me at 6:30 and 9:30, but what about 8 p.m. between sets on the Coke Stage? How about Cowboy Mouth? That’s right, the New Orleans rockers are coming to Riverbend on the Bud Light Stage on a Saturday night. These guys like to have fun and I would watch the audience as many of Chattanooga’s drummers will probably be there to watch founding member Fred Leblanc do his percussive magic on stage. Luke & Jessi open up on the Bud Light Stage at 6 p.m.

Up on the Unum Stage, Standing Room Only opens for the always wonderful Juice Newton. Juice didn’t just bring any old band with her to Riverbend, though. She is performing with Exile. Yes, that Exile. Kiss Me All Over Exile. Pretty cool, eh? After their performance, TAUK rocks the stage at 9:30 p.m.

The TVFCU Stage has the Cash Only Band, Jess Goggans, and Jakubi on for Saturday night, with performances starting at 6:15, 7:45, and 9:15 p.m.

The Chevy stage has a big surprise – Last night’s Bud Light Stage headliner, Deep Fried Five, will be back on the Chevy stage for a special encore performance at 8 p.m. The River Canyon Band opens at 6:15 p.m.
