A brief, yet powerful storm moved through the area Monday evening around 5 p.m.

The storm moved through Rossville before hitting East Lake, East Ridge and Brainerd with heavy rain and strong winds.

A second line of storms moved through about 7 p.m. It was just as strong and caused additional outages.

Hundreds of homes were left without power in those areas. According to EPB both East Ridge and Brainerd had over 500 customers without power. Shallowford/Tyner had between 200 and 500 as did Rossville, Signal Mountain and Ooltewah/Collegedale. Chattanooga Valley also had over 100 customers without electricity.

Traffic was heavy in and around the city with I-24 thick and slow. Traffic taking alternate routes ran into downed trees and power lines along with stop lights that were not working.

There was damage reported at Lake Winnepesaukah.

The area was under a severe thunderstorm warning.
