Mary Howard Farmer Parker, 84, of Hixson, died on Sunday, June 7, 2015 at her home.

She was born on May 22, 1931 to the late Theodosia and Wiley Howard Farmer of Signal Mountain.

Mary was a lifelong resident of Chattanooga, and was a long standing member of Rivermont Presbyterian Church.

Mary graduated from Chattanooga High School in 1949, where she was a member of the orchestra as a cellist. Music was an important part of her life. Mary was a member of the Chattanooga Symphony for many years. Even after she no longer played in the symphony, Mary continued to play in string quartets and trios for weddings and plays locally. She was also a part of the Senior Neighbors orchestra for several years. Mary played handbells in the church handbell choir from time to time, and also enjoyed square dancing with friends for several years.

Although Mary loved music, home and family was her greatest joy. Mary's sense of humor, her lively sense of fun, and her wonderful cooking ability made every family gathering full of good food, laughter and joy. Mary's generous nature and gift of hospitality extended to friends and neighbors as well. New neighbors were always welcomed with Mary's delicious baked goods. Neighborhood children knew they were always welcome at "Ms. Mary's", where there were treats, love, and acceptance. She will be greatly missed by both her family and her friends.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Sue Farmer McFarlan.

She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Norman L. Parker. She is also survived by her sons, Rick (Ella) of Etowah, Tn., and Ken (Jan), of Soddy Daisy, one granddaughter, Sarah Newby (Chris) of Harrison, and two great-grandchildren, Tinsley and Madison Newby. She is also survived by two step grandchildren, Daniel Diggs of Redmond, Wa., and Sarah Northcutt of Decatur, Ga.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 11, at 3 p.m. at Rivermont Presbyterian Church with Reverend Clay Thomas officiating.  Burial will follow at Hamilton Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, June 10, from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Rivermont Presbyterian Church in Mary's name in lieu of flowers.

Arrangements are by the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory and Florist, 5401 Highway 153, Hixson, Tn. 37343.
