Delores Beery, mezzo soprano, and Ann Almond Pope, piano, will present a free concert "American Masters of Popular Song" at Summitt Pianos, 6209 Lee Highway (next to Nutrition World) on Sunday, June 21, at 3 p.m
The program will consist of works by Alec Wilder, Vernon Duke and Harold Arlen, such as "Stormy Weather," "April in Paris," and songs from "The Wizard of Oz." These three composers made contributions to the body of American popular music (1920-1960) and because of its enduring quality, has come to be known as The Great American Songbook. Composed in the United States, it represents music from Tin Pan Alley to Broadway, from vaudeville to the movies.
Ms. Beery sang in Europe for 15 years in many musical genres, including opera, chamber and sacred music, musicals, radio and television. Ms. Pope, a member of ASCAP, is a pianist, Steinway Artist, and arranger.
