Former Chattanooga Mocs All-American Stephan Jaeger is truly living the dream. Jaeger earned a spot in the 2015 United States Open Championship Monday tying for third at Springfield Country Club in Springfield, Ohio. He played his 36 holes at 6 under shooting 66 and 68 to match amateur Nick Hardy.
Hoopeston, Ill., pro Michael Davan won the qualifier at 8 under, one ahead of PGA Tour pro Tony Finau in second at 7 under. Australian Clint Rice got the first alternate position carding 5 under, while Web.com Tour player Roberto Diaz is second alternate claiming it in a playoff over Chris Thompson after the duo finished at 4 under.
He is the first Moc since Steven Fox in 2013 to play in the U.S. Open. He and the field of 156 tackle Chambers Bay Links in University Place, Wash., June 18-21. Chambers Bay is on the shore of the Puget Sound southwest of Tacoma.
This is the first major appearance for the former Mocs star. The only three-time Southern Conference Player of the Year in league history, Jaeger is a member of the Web.com Tour this season. Four of the 67 competitors from Springfield earned a spot in the field.
