Options are plentiful for having some music related fun this 4th of July weekend in the Chattanooga area. Starting Thursday, July 2nd, Collegedale will host a celebration with the East Tennessee Symphony Orchestra playing at 6:45 p.m. and fireworks to follow at dark. Local food options will be available at the celebration. The celebration is scheduled for Veterans Memorial Park, just off Apison Pike. Exit off I-75 at exit 9. Check out www.etsomusic.org.

Ft. Oglethorpe has scheduled their “Patriotism At The Post” for July 3rd at historic Barnhardt Circle. Festivities for the long-running event include food vendors, games, coloring contest, live music, and fireworks at dark. For more information, go to www.fortotourism.org.

Also on Friday, Nightfall presents bluesman Tinsley Ellis and local band Xsklusive, starting at 7 p.m. They are teaming up with the Bessie Smith Cultural Center to have a street dance, games, car show, and food vendors – all starting at 5 p.m. Nightfall and the Bessie Smith Cultural Center are located on MLK Blvd.

Saturday, Coolidge Park plays host to the Chattanooga Symphony & Opera and fireworks. This year the entertainment will start early with a tribute to veterans, featuring veteran songwriters from Operation Song and two other local and Nashville bands.  Taking the stage at 5 p.m. will be the all-veteran hard rock band from Nashville called Ironglide. Following their set at 5:40 p.m., a few veteran songwriters participating in the pilot music therapy program called Operation Song will take the stage along with Grammy-winning songwriter Bob Regan. Then from 6-6:40 p.m. Chattanooga-based Mitch Rossell and his band will perform a country music set in honor of veterans.

At 8 p.m., the Chattanooga Symphony will present their Pops on the River concert, with special guest conductor Jacob Harrison. Fireworks will follow at dark. It is a free event and lawn chairs, blankets, and picnic baskets are welcome. Coolidge Park is located off Frazier Avenue in North Chattanooga.

The Chattanooga Lookouts are home this week and have a fireworks Independence Day celebration after the game on July 3rd. Check them out and get tickets at http://www.milb.com/index.jsp?sid=t498.

Lake Winnie will also have their annual 4th of July fireworks display at dark on July 3rd and July 4th at 10 p.m. For more info, go to http://www.lakewinnie.com.
