Ooltewah Market Holds "Farmers Appreciation Day" On Thursday With Activities And Contests For Kids

The Ooltewah market at 5829 Main St. is open every Thursday from 3-6 p.m., but this Thursday marks their Farmers Appreciation Day, with a number of creative activities and special guests. Children who come to the market this Thursday will be asked to draw pictures about “What Farmers Do” for a contest to be judged by the farmers themselves at the end of the day. The Collegedale Library will bring books relating to agriculture and will have a Story Time at 3:30 and 5:15 p.m. An educational scavenger hunt with a prize for each finisher will also be conducted.

Grownups can sign greeting cards available at the market’s information booth, thanking their favorite farmers. Hamilton County UT Extension’s June Pruett will host a booth focused on food preservation and canning, and Crabtree Farms, coordinators of the area’s Local Food Program, will host an information booth to raise awareness about local foods.

Pick Tennessee Products will be at the Ooltewah Farmers Market on Thursday, Pick Tennessee Products spokesperson Tammy Algood will make and share samples of her fresh vegetable gazpacho recipe along with Pick Tennessee produce recipe cards.
