Verizon Introduces Interactive, Virtual Career Fair For College Graduates

  • Wednesday, July 22, 2015

Job seekers frustrated by today’s online application process – applying for jobs and wondering if anyone ever sees their form-generated resumes – will have an opportunity to speak directly with recruiters for more than 1,000 jobs during Verizon’s first-ever nationwide, virtual career fair on Thursday, said officials.

This interactive career fair will allow interested candidates to use technology to connect directly with company recruiters via online chat – while at home.

“In the past, job seekers may have had to travel and prepare to interview for what might be a single opportunity,” explained said Jerry Fountain, Verizon Wireless president for the Carolinas and Tennessee. “It seems natural for an innovative company like Verizon to use technology to connect skilled applicants with our recruiters in a convenient, yet impactful, way. We’re confident that we will connect with many outstanding potential employees, who can help us better serve our customers here in Tennessee.”

Verizon is looking to hire career-minded individuals to fill more than 200 retail, customer service and technical support positions throughout Tennessee.

“Verizon prides itself on building career paths for its employees,” Mr. Fountain added. “We seek out enthusiastic workers who thrive in an environment of diversity, teamwork and performance excellence. Our career paths go far beyond retail sales – They range from marketing, network engineering, IT, public relations, management, customer service, human resources and more.”

While candidates from anywhere in the U.S. may participate in the virtual career fair, Verizon is encouraging students and graduates from more than 100 specifically targeted colleges and universities to participate. Columbia State Community College, Middle Tennessee State University, Motlow State Community College and Nashville State Community College are among those targeted.

Candidates should "enjoy working with people, be excellent multi-taskers and have solid technical skills."  An associate’s degree is preferred. Verizon Wireless provides a competitive salary and a Total Rewards benefit program that includes 401(k) savings plan with company matching contributions, medical, vision and dental insurance beginning the first day of employment and up to $8,000 in tuition assistance.

The virtual career fair will be held between 9 a.m.-2:30 p.m. on Thursday. During this time, applicants can log in to interact with Verizon recruiters, who will have access to the candidates’ documents.
