Robert McDonald
Robert Wayne “Gooby” McDonald, 75, of Ringgold, Georgia, died peacefully on Thursday, July 23, 2015, with his loving wife of 53 years by his side.
Robert was born on February 26, 1940 in Fayetteville, Tn. to the late W.H. and Annie Lou McDonald. He attended Kirkman High School where he was an outstanding athlete in numerous sports. He was All-City in basketball in 1958, and won several baseball and tennis championships. He coached his daughter in basketball from the time she was in little league until she was in high school. He and his brother Terry became National Rook champions in 1970. He started his career in 1965 at Farmers Chemical and worked there for 15 years before becoming the supervisor of the water treatment plant for the City of Chattanooga where he worked until he retired in 2008. Robert was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother who always put his family first. He will always be remembered by his family and friends as a compassionate, generous, and a selfless man. He was a member of Christ United Methodist Church, and Manker-Patten Tennis Club.
He was preceded in death by his father, W.H. McDonald, mother, Annie Lou McDonald, brother, Charles Terry McDonald, and nephew, Jeff Rose.
He is survived by his wife, Faye McDonald, son, Wayne Jr., daughter, Kellie (Andrew) Guth, grandson, Austin Guth who was his pride and joy, and brothers, Earl McDonald, and Darrell (Marilyn) McDonald.
Memorial services will be held on Sunday, July 26, at 5 p.m. in the Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend David Hall and Reverend Don Allison officiating.
