The Lee University Board of Directors has voted to re-establish the position of assistant vice president, and appointed two administrators, Eric Moyen and Cole Strong, to that position.

Dr. Moyen, previous chair of the Health, Exercise Science, and Secondary Education department, was named assistant vice president for Academic Affairs.  He will serve on the leadership team of Dr. Debbie Murray, vice president for Academic Affairs.  Dr. Moyen has served both as a professor of education and as the director of First Year Programs since joining the Lee faculty in fall 2004. He holds the PhD degree from the University of Kentucky and did his undergraduate work at Taylor University. He lives in Cleveland with his wife Missy and their two daughters, Anna Grace and Emmy.

“I am delighted to be able to work more directly with Eric Moyen,” said Dr. Murray. “I am especially pleased that he will focus on a coordinated unit for student success and retention. Dr. Moyen is a gifted young administrator with great passion and energy for making a positive impact on Lee students. We are blessed to add him to the leadership team in the Academic Affairs office.”

Along with his teaching duties, Dr. Moyen has served as coordinator of the “teaching coaches” faculty development initiative, and he initiated the Lee University Oral History Project. He has also conducted research on the impact of international education experiences while directing cross-cultural student-teaching trips to Greece and Ghana.

Mr. Strong, former director of operations at Lee, has been promoted to assistant vice president for Operations, working under the direct supervision of Lee president Dr. Paul Conn.  Mr. Strong came to Lee as a freshman student from Birmingham, Ala.  After graduating, he joined the staff of the Office of the President in January 2005.  He holds the MBA degree from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville. One of  Mr. Strong’s primary duties of the last several years has been serving as "clerk of the works" for the university's multiple construction projects.  He has been the university liaison for such major projects as the Science and Math Complex, the Chapel on Ocoee Street, the Communication Arts building, and the renovation of the former First Baptist Church sanctuary into Pangle Hall.

Mr. Strong and his wife Ashley are members of First Baptist Church; they have four children, Jeremiah, Lucas, Olivia, and Nora.

Dr. Conn announced the board's action, stating: “These are two outstanding young administrators who are ready for leadership roles in the broader affairs of the university. I have watched the professional development of both men with great admiration, and I think they will strengthen the work of the Cabinet and the deans in their new roles.”
