Fantastic Negrito plays at Nightfall Friday.

The Nightfall Concert Series continues Friday with the raw, soulful sounds of headliner Fantastic Negrito preceded by local opener Glowing Bordis.

Presented and produced by Chattanooga Presents, this 19-week free outdoor concert series is held every Friday at Miller Plaza and features headline performances by a broad spectrum of music performed by superior national and international artists.

Review for Fantastic Negrito:

By the time he was 20, Xavier Dphrepaulezz (pronounced dee-FREP-ah-lez) had taught himself to play every instrument he could get his hands on. The narrative on this man is as important as the sound, because the narrative is the sound. Songs born from a long hard life channeled through black roots music. Slide guitar, drums, piano. Urgent, desperate and edgy. Fantastic Negrito is the story of a man who struggled to “make it,” who “got it,” and then lost it all.

Dphrepaulezz once landed a multi-million dollar deal with Interscope Records, but left the label when he felt his identity was “lost” in the process. His trials wouldn’t end there. After a car crash, Dphrepaulezz was in a coma for three weeks and lost the ability to play guitar. He then moved back to Oakland, bought a farm and raised a family. Now, he’s regained some usage of his hand and is making bluesy music again as Fantastic Negrito. He won NPR Music’s Tiny Desk Concert competition out of 7,000 entrants. Almost overnight, the singer-songwriter became an international sensation. Last year, he released his self-titled debut EP under the moniker and it was recently reissued as a deluxe edition with a handful of bonus material via Blackball Universe.

Review for Glowing Bordis:
Glowing Bordis is a three-piece rock band from Chattanooga that brings rock-n-roll back to the forefront of the current music scene. In September of 2010, T.J Greever and Dan Pinson connected with longtime friend and drummer Jonathan Susman and formed what is now, Glowing Bordis. Soon after their formation, the band had their first show opening for rock legends Drivin-N-Cryin and they blew it out in front of a packed house at Rhythm & Brews in Chattanooga. Each member has been steeped in the southeastern music scene for a solid decade.

Food trucks and non-alcoholic drink concessions are available on site. No outside food or beverages are allowed to be brought in to Nightfall.
